We will park the vehicle in a small widening of the road 100 m before the junction of the track that leads into the vall de Montaup. We will head north, crossing the prats de Montaup and continuing up the valley bottom. On reaching the 2,140 m contour, facing the costa de Roca Negra, we will follow the slope on the left to the clots d'Encarners. We will then look for the long, steep east-facing slope that will take us to the coll d'Arenes (2,539 m). Ski crampons or crampons and an ice axe may be necessary on this route.
